Next week will see thousands of royal jubilee street parties up and down the country. This is how they did it 35 years ago in Stowell Street…

The London 2012 Olympic torch passes through Ludlow in South Shropshire on Thursday 24th May. Thousands lined the streets to see the selected carriers as the torch made its way from Herefordshire to be carried through the town centre. A air of patriotism and celebration was obvious with many of the spectators waving flags and the streets and shops all decorated in red, white and blue bunting and flags.

Martin Parr - 2011 Walsall Royal Wedding Photographs
These three photographs taken my Martin Parr were brought to my attention by a good friend of mine. Parr’s photos shows the world through his point of view, of an unique perspective. At a first glance the photos appear grotesque, with odd colours and unusual perspective.
I find Parr can be a documentary photographer like Marmite, you either love or hate his work. But this series of photographs for the Royal Wedding I feel bring a very different side out in Parr’s style.
The three photographs i have uploaded, have been my new inspiration for my knitting project under the British Culture: Cultural Olympiad theme.

Final Knitted Sample: Bunting
This is to tie with my theme of ‘Culutral Olympiad’ - in which i have looked at typically British. In knitting i have expanded on typically British to look at the way British celebrate in the form of street parties: bunting, cake, tea and gathering of neighborhoods.
I have created this knit on a double bed knitting machine and created the coloured sections by transferring the stitches to the back bed and only stitching the colour onto the back bed, then transferring them back - not as complicated as i have just made it sound.
Card Designs for Print
The colour palettes I have used, compliment each other as a series and a single design. These are prints of the designs using a single bow for card designs.
The designs have ‘Rosehip’ down the sides of the designs, as within the brief I was given this was the company i had to design for, therefore their logo is included within the design.

Corgis in crowns, bunting and royal celebrations
An illustration by madillustrationfor Bubble Creative Solutions. Gathering all of the key themes throughout my last project and bringing them together in this fantastic British themed illustration. Very patriotic.

A fantastic photograph taken by photographer eddfury, capturing the ‘calm before the storm’. British decor placed around Albert Square in Manchester with typically British bunting with the Union jack proudly flying in the background, in preparation for the Queen’s jubilee tour on the 23rd March 2012.
